Practices

Practices will begin a couple weeks prior to the first games with specific dates and times at the discretion of each coach. Players are expected to bring a soccer ball of appropriate size, a water bottle, shin guards, and rubber cleats to all practices and games.

Games

Games will be played throughout the season and may be scheduled on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and/or Saturdays (and Mondays if needed). No team will meet more than 3 times a week (including practices).

Team Assignments

Teams are formed randomly based on age. Parents who volunteer to coach their child’s team will have him/her placed on their team. Siblings within the same age division will be placed on the same team. WE ARE UNABLE TO MAKE ALLOWANCES BASED ON PERSONAL PREFERENCE, CARPOOLING, SCHOOL FRIENDS, ETC. We reserve the right to modify leagues/teams to accommodate the majority.

Registration Periods and Seasons

The Fort Smith Express Soccer club has two soccer seasons. There is a fall season which begins in late August to early September and a spring season which begins in late March to early April. The seasons usually last around 8 weeks.

Registration for the fall season will typically open up in early July. Registration for the spring season usually opens in early February. Both registration periods last approximately one month.

On-line registration is available on the club website through the entire length of the registration periods. You may also mail in your registration to our mailing address found here.

We also provide two days during each registration period for a drop off registration. The drop off location and days are announced prior to the registration period for each season.

Late registration is available but a late registration fee will apply.

Registration Fees

Registration fees vary and are listed on the registration form for each season. The fees cover the uniform, secondary insurance, ASSA/USYSA fees, field maintenance, field usage, referees, and all administration/registration costs.

We are a non-profit organization and do our best to keep the registration fees as low as possible.

Academy or Recreational

If the age group allows for the choice between academy and recreational play you may be wondering what the difference is. You can review our Academy vs. Recreational decision guide and also take a look at the recreational and academy pages on our website for more information on each.

The key difference is that the academy program is primarily focused on player developement via more practices and less games which leads to our academy players being more technically developed whereas the recreational program focuses on team play with less practices and more games.

Our recreational league is a great way to start out for first time players. The academy league also offers the opportunity for some travel to other local soccer clubs in the region for inter-club play as well as some regional tournament play.

All games in the recreational league are played at Ben Geren Park.

Coaching Opportunities

If anyone is interested in volunteering to coach full-time or part-time we have many opportunities available. Please signify this on your registration form if you are a parent.

If you are not a parent and would like to volunteer you may contact us via our contact page with your name and phone number or email address.

Parents will be assigned to coach their childs team and non-parent coaching volunteers will be assigned within their requested age group.

We also have coaching clinics led by our Director of Coaching throughout the season for our coaches to attend. Coaching materials and resources will be provided to all of our coaches so if you are new to soccer you have no excuse for not volunteering!

All coaches are required to complete a background verification.
